I may have said I disliked a specific song, or a CD. But I don't hate bands. I don't hate individual musicians. I have a right to hold this to disliking everything K-Fed ever did, but I don't hate him in all his total wannabe ghetto style. I dislike almost all of Christina's stuff after the debut album, but I don't hate her.
So why, when I mention my favourite band, do you automatically say, "I hate them so much! they are overplayed/bad writers/not popular anymore et cetera" ?!
The worst is when someone hates them because they are from a particular "style" of music, like girl pop, or boy-bandism. So what? Did you ever listen to them? I'm not saying you have to love it/them, just give it a chance. Don't say you hate it because it was sung badly by some chick on Pop/Canadian/American Idol. Don't hate them because the lead singer announced he was gay.
And yes, I still happily listen to all the "old" Britney and Christina, to the boy bands like NSYNC and Backstreet Boys. I listen to the awesome 90's bands like Gin Blossoms and Collective Soul, and I listen to 70's/80's music like the The Eagles and Journey. And I listen to little-known indie bands like The Red Airplanes and Abandon (Texas). I listen to never-say-die bands like U2 and Aerosmith.
Give music a chance. Don't be a hater because "they" aren't "in" right now.
