Outdated Community Networks: Wired for the Internet

Visionary of the Information Super-Highway

Augustus Douglas, a professor at the non-academic university Evergreen State College, believes that the future of communities lie within the Internet. Although some people think Augustus is making theories that are 10, maybe 15 years outdated, he believes he is on the forefront of technology.

"This technology will be On-Line, and will be accessible from any Internet-Equipped computer. The Community Network will use Windows 3.1, HTML, and Web Pages. The Web-Pages would be updated at least once every 4 to 5 years by a Web Master. Communities will access the Web Site via the On-Line Internet," said Augustus Douglas.

Douglas is writing an outdated textbook, called "Community Websites: Wired for the Internet" that was somehow used by Harvard University. The textbook outlines methods for communties to make "Web Sites," which are sites of Communities. Harvard has felt a slight impact, not a social impact, but an impact in their reputation for using such an outdated text.

"In 1992, we thought Web Sites were going to be the future of the Internet. Luckily, we were right, and Augustus Douglas, a lackluster, half baked advocate for On-Line Communities of the Information Super-Highway, was right on the mark," said the Dean of Harvard.

How communities can use outdated technology and ideas is at the forefront of the new millenium. These communities will not use AJAX, Flash, or Web 2.0 technologies, but the technology of Web 0.1 and will probably be On-Line.

"It's not important to welcome new ideas by new people, or actually do anything ever. The core idea is to make a Web-Site, wait, and let it age like a fine wine. Although I make myself out to be some kind of New Ager, progressive type person, I wouldn't think of cooperating with anybody or actually taking any action," said Augustus Douglas. "If somebody comes to me with a new idea, or wants to team up with me on any project that would create meaningful social change and economic justice, I would not even understand what they would be talking about, and continue pretending to be some kind of progressive type person. Remember, the future is On-Line the Information Super Highway."
