Spam blocked.

I'm in a bit of a pickle.

So today is my returning emails, comments, etc. day.  I've had to have sent over 20 different emails on Myspace today, and when I sent the last one it sent me to a screen that had me verify a "secret" coding.  If you have never fallen to the depths of sending that many emails in one day and don't know what I`m talking about, here's a picture:

Naturally, my question is has this "spam verification" prevented ANYONE from sending the email?  Ever?  You write a big "fuck you" letter to the ex girlfriend--you pulled out the dictionary, thesaurus, even the encyclopedia. It's all built up and ready to send, then...fuck.  Verification?  What the fuck?  I'm OUT of here.  [click "Signout"]

What does this prevent?  Are there people having a tough time with this?  "Ok.  Ok.  I can do this.  That first letter kinda looks like a "K"...but...hmm, it has some kind of horizontal line above it.  Hya.  This obviously isn't a "K" that I've seen before.  Ok, I'll take a chance and put "K"...but I definitely don't feel confident about it.  Moving on.  Ok, the next two are obviously a lower-case "c" and capital "A".  They tried to trick me with the diagonal line in between, but I once took that psychological exam where you look at the picture and you either see the young woman or older woman.  Well, I saw both.  So my eyes are not easily tricked.  Moving on...what the shit is that?  A "7" with a line crossed THROUGH it?!  This is mind bending.  It could also be a Polish "Z".  Zoinks.  I knew it wouldn't be this easy."

[fart noise]

So then you fail it...so, surely the email is regarded as spam, yes?

No!

You get a second chance with a whole new "puzzle" to try and extrapolate.  Weeee!  And if you're not Mensa and can`t figure out on the second, or third, or fourth try like the rest of us can't, then you get to keep going until you DO get it!  Whew.  Thank you, spam blockers, for guarding my inbox so thoroughly.
You think it's run by the same security they use at the airport?

This prevents automated spammers from sending out hundreds of emails, as it is very difficult to come up with a program to decipher the image and input it into the verification field. A live person should have no problem reading the image, and can move past that step easily enough.

Perhaps he wrote the article merely to rag on having to verify; a spammer(as you pointed out) wouldn't be able to read the field, only the legitimate sender. Written on 19/6/07
***Yawn*** Thanks for the textbook explanation, asshat.

And as for the original post... read the textbook explanation, asshat. Did you even know what SPAM was before my friend here spelled it out for you?

Bwaahahaha! Dude, awesome post. You're not the only one who saw both... in fact, I saw a Leprechaun as well. Written on 16/5/07
Leprechaun? lol now that's funny. I hate the Captchas that I can't see. But I really like the ones that make you to maths -- reminding me I still know what 2+2 is. :)

I bet later on it'll be like SAT questions: SPAM :: Email ? Written on 19/5/07
Question: who puts that much effort into a "fuck you" letter to their ex? Written on 31/7/07
